Thursday, February 21, 2012

IoD Finalist - Northwest, Director of the Year Awards 2012At the recent Institute of Director Awards held at Lancashire Cricket Club's new banqueting suite, Claire Holt of Flashbang Science Ltd was a finalist for The Weightman's Award for Business Innovation, selected from a huge number of entrants around the North West.

The awards are held annually and are a celebration of business achievements across a range of categories. Widely regarded as one of the most prestigious awards in the North West, the IOD see their members as the future of local business and in turn commend all of the finalists very highly.

Flashbang Science provides an interactive, fun approach to scientific learning, bringing the basics of Science into Primary Schools across the North West via their mobile Science laboratory. Many Primary Schools of course have neither the facilities nor the finances to be able to give their students the grounding they need in order to bring science back as a subject to be embraced and developed, Flashbang's aim is to bridge that gap.

Claire herself has worked over an extended period of time in senior management companies such as Zeneca and Fujifilm and has been the winner of a recent Innovation Award at the Rossendale Business Awards . Always looking to nurture other new technology start ups, as well as continuously devising new aspects to her own business, has seen Claire work with the Liverpool Vision Enterprise Facilitator/Mentor project.

History in the North West shows the major impact Scientific Industry had on the area, providing jobs and receiving worldwide acknowledgment and Claire goes on to say:

The North West for so many years has seen the decline of science both as a subject in schools and as an industry. It would be such a shame to lose it entirely and to have the opportunity to build its awareness and maybe in the future drive it back to the levels it once was, an international force in developments and ideas, is paramount to our long term business plans.

Flashbang in its second year has seen a huge amount of repeat business and plans are already afoot to grow the business to include a second laboratory. Students and teachers are behind it, parents and businesses think its an incredible idea, so lets embrace a second coming of science, a second coming that could, after all, see the region become the force it once was not so long ago!

Claire Holt, owner and Founder of Flashbang explained of her achievement, "We have been in business for just over two years now and to be placed amongst the elite of companies in the North West in our category was just incredible. The business has been built not only by the team's hard work but also by the forward thinking of the local schools in having us there."
